PRIUM’S New TaperRx Helps Physicians Wean Chronic Pain Patients from Complex Drug Regimens

TaperRx is healthcare’s first roadmap to tapering patients off multiple prescription drugs in multiple drug classifications.

ORLANDO, Fla. (August 18, 2014) – PRIUM, a medical intervention company specializing in reducing the inappropriate use of prescription drugs, announced its ground-breaking TaperRx service at the Workers’ Compensation Institute’s Educational Conference today.

“TaperRx provides physicians a ‘roadmap’ to assist them in reducing or eliminating the numerous prescription drugs in multiple classifications that chronic pain patients typically take,” said PRIUM Senior Vice President Mark Pew.

These drugs often include opioids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, benzodiazepines, muscle relaxants, and/or anti-depressants. Weaning patients off a mix of drug classifications is complicated because different drugs require different tapering protocols. Physicians need to decide which drugs to taper first, how to reduce their dosage, and what milestones to meet before moving to the next step.

PRIUM’s Mark Pew Discusses Opioid Management at the Industrial Commission of Arizona’s Claims Seminar

Phoenix, Ariz. (Aug. 5, 2014) – Mark Pew, senior vice president of PRIUM, a medical intervention company focused on managing pharmacy use in workers’ compensation, will present “Best Practices in Opioid Management” at the Industrial Commission of Arizona’s Annual Claims Seminar in August.

Speaking at 9:15 a.m. on August 15, Pew will review appropriate and inappropriate uses for opioids and other prescription drugs along with their possible side effects. He will also describe issues surrounding polypharmacy, which is the use of too many, inappropriate or redundant drugs, and the difficulty of tapering chronic pain patients from polypharmacy regimens involving multiple drug classifications.

“Polypharmacy is a significant problem in chronic pain treatment. You’ll often see five or more prescription drugs from different classifications in a drug regimen, and there are not many credible medical guidelines for tapering these patients off these drugs,” said Pew, who wrote a white paper on the topic with Kimberly Vernachio, PharmD, RPh. Scott Yasko Joins Tower MSA Partners as EVP Business Development

Alpha-Omega Title Among Ten Best Places to Work in Tampa Bay Area

PRIUM’s Mark Pew Addresses Ohio Self Insured Conference
