Simpler is better, most of the time

Laura Brockway hit some people’s nerves with her article on using simpler words (see comments).  I agree with her.  Most business writers say “utilize” instead of “use like it sounds more impressive.

Occasionally, there is a precise word that really captures the meaning, but most of the time, complicated words just get in their own way.  Check out her list of complex words and their simpler versions.
