PRIUM seeks functional restoration/pain management clinics for work-comp payer clients

DULUTH, GA (May 20, 2013) — PRIUM, a medical intervention company that helps reduce the inappropriate use of prescription drugs on workers’ compensation claims, wants to highlight good functional restoration clinics and chronic pain management clinics for its payer-clients.

Many treating physicians who agree to reduce or discontinue opioids during PRIUM’s pharmacy reviews do not want to actively manage the weaning process, leaving payers to find other resources.  To identify clinics with good track records of helping patients reduce or eliminate opioids through alternative pain management techniques, PRIUM has created a “Centers with Standards” database.

To be included and receive more visibility within the workers’ compensation payer community, providers of functional restoration and chronic pain management programs can complete a questionnaire at www.priumrestorescore.com. There is no charge to apply or participate in the Centers with Standards. Providers will receive a RestoreScore™ rating, based on a set of criteria developed by analyzing the characteristics of functional restoration programs with good outcomes.

“We compared these practices with treatment guidelines in evidence-based medicine to establish ‘best-practice’ criteria,” said PRIUM’s Senior Vice President of Business Development Mark Pew.  Using the criteria, PRIUM created the provider questionnaire and a scoring system that ranks clinics. High-scoring centers receive a RestoreScore certification demonstrating their commitment to evidence-based medicine and best practices.

“The Centers with Standards program bridges the information gap between workers’ compensation payers and providers,” Pew added.  “Vetting clinics via best-practice criteria makes it easier for payers to identify and select the clinics with the best outcomes. The goal is to have participation from across the United States for wide geographic coverage.” PRIUM has no financial arrangements with these providers, and clients are not charged for access to the database.
